Koblenz is a two-bank city: the historic Altstadt and modern Mitte sit on the left bank of the Rhine, while Ehrenbreitstein and its fortress occupy the right. Each district suits a different traveller, from sightseers who want the Deutsches Eck on their doorstep to budget visitors who don’t mind a 20-minute walk. Here is how the neighbourhoods break down, with average hotel prices, and for specific hotel picks see our where to stay in Koblenz guide. Timing matters too, so check best time to visit Koblenz before choosing dates.

Koblenz Neighborhoods: The Left Bank

Altstadt (Old Town)

The Altstadt is the pedestrianised historic core running from the Deutsches Eck down to Liebfrauenkirche, threaded with cobbled streets, half-timbered houses and most of the city’s restaurants and wine bars. It suits first-time visitors who want every major sight within a 10-minute walk. Hotel prices run the highest here, with mid-range doubles around €110 to €150 a night in summer. Noise rises on festival weekends, so light sleepers should ask for a courtyard room.

Mitte (City Centre and Station Quarter)

Mitte is the commercial district around Zentralplatz, the Löhr-Center mall and Koblenz Hauptbahnhof, just north and east of the Altstadt. It suits business travellers and shoppers, with the fastest access to trains and trams. Prices are a notch below the Altstadt, with doubles roughly €90 to €130, and the big chain hotels cluster here. The walk to the Deutsches Eck takes about 15 minutes.

Lützel

Lützel sits on the left bank north of the Moselle, a mostly residential area with cheaper apartments and guesthouses. It suits budget travellers and families who want quiet nights, and the riverside path into the centre takes about 20 minutes on foot. Doubles here can run €70 to €100, the lowest on the left bank. It is also handy for the cable car’s lower station.

Koblenz Neighborhoods: The Right Bank and Beyond

Ehrenbreitstein

Ehrenbreitstein is the right-bank district below the fortress of the same name, linked to the centre by the cable car and a pedestrian bridge. It suits couples and anyone after Rhine-view rooms and quiet evenings, and Diehls Hotel is its best-known stay. Prices run €100 to €160 for riverside doubles. The neighbourhood itself is small, so plan dinners across the river or in the fortress restaurant. For what the fortress area offers, see our things to do in Koblenz guide, and the Koblenz guide ties the visit together.

Rauental

Rauental spreads south of the centre along the Moselle bank, home to the Moselbad spa complex and the university. It suits wellness-focused and longer-stay travellers who want a pool and sauna close by and don’t mind the 15-minute riverside walk to the Altstadt. Doubles run about €90 to €130, and it is quieter than Mitte. See Koblenz weather by month for the months when the riverside walk is pleasant.

Neuendorf and Karthause

Neuendorf, on a Rhine island north of the Altstadt, and the hilltop Karthause district are the city’s green, residential edges. They suit drivers who want free or cheap parking, with family flats and guesthouses from €60 to €90 a night. You’ll need the bus (Koveb lines) or a car to reach the centre, roughly 10 to 20 minutes.
