Koblenz sits at the Deutsches Eck, the point where the Moselle flows into the Rhine, and the city’s weather, sights and daily rhythms all follow from that location. It’s the northern gateway to the UNESCO Upper Middle Rhine Valley, a 2,000-year-old city with a fortress reached by cable car and one of Germany’s mildest climates. This guide collects everything in one place: monthly weather, when to visit, what to do, where to stay and how to get around.
Koblenz Weather at a Glance
Koblenz has a mild, temperate climate shaped by its sheltered Rhine valley position about 65 m above sea level, which makes it one of the warmest spots in Germany. July and August average 24°C (75°F) by day and 14°C (57°F) at night, while January runs 4°C (39°F) high and 0°C (32°F) low. Annual rainfall sits near 650 mm, spread evenly, with February the driest at about 40 mm and December the wettest at around 60 mm.
Sunshine peaks in July at roughly 7.4 hours a day and collapses to about 1.3 hours in December, when valley fog settles over the rivers. The Rhine and Moselle moderate the extremes, so deep cold and real heat are rare, but afternoon thunderstorms are common from June to August. For the full month-by-month numbers and a climate table, see our Koblenz weather by month guide.

Location and What Shapes Koblenz’s Weather
Koblenz stands at the confluence of the Rhine and Moselle, about 90 km south of Cologne and 110 km west of Frankfurt. The river valleys funnel mild Atlantic air in from the west, which is why winters here are warmer and wetter than in the hills just a few kilometres away, and why the Hunsrück and Eifel ranges to the west catch more rain than the city itself. That valley shelter also traps fog in late autumn and winter, the one trade-off for the mild temperatures. For how all of this plays out across the year, start with the Koblenz weather by month guide, and for everything else, work through the guides above.
