Ponta da Piedade
The defining landmark of Lagos, Ponta da Piedade is a headland of golden sandstone cliffs carved by wind and waves into arches, grottoes, and sea stacks rising up to 20 meters above turquoise water. A boardwalk with wooden staircases lets you descend to several viewpoints. The site is about 3km south of the town center, accessible by car (free parking), a 40-minute coastal walk from Praia Dona Ana, or the tourist road train that departs from the marina (4 EUR round trip, runs every 30 minutes in summer). Entry is free and the site is open 24 hours, but sunrise and late afternoon provide the best light for photos. Kayak tours depart from the nearby Marina de Lagos and paddle directly into the grottoes (typically 30 to 35 EUR per person for a 2.5-hour guided tour). Praia Dona Ana
