March starts cool with highs around 13°C (55°F) and lows of 6°C (43°F). Cherry blossoms typically reach full bloom between March 25 and April 5, with Tsurugaoka Hachimangu and Genjiyama Park as prime viewing spots. April warms to 18°C (64°F) by day with 135 mm of rain spread across 11 wet days. By May, temperatures climb to a pleasant 22°C (72°F) during the day and 15°C (59°F) at night, with 143 mm of rain. Kamakura Weather by Month: Summer (June to August)
The rainy season (tsuyu) runs from mid-June to mid-July, with June receiving 190 mm of rain and only 4 hours of daily sunshine. Temperatures reach 25°C (77°F) with humidity above 75%. July brings 163 mm of rain and temperatures of 28°C (82°F), though afternoon thunderstorms are common. August is the hottest month at 29°C (84°F) with 24°C (75°F) lows and the most sunshine hours (7 hours daily). Kamakura Weather by Month: Autumn (September to November)
September is Kamakura’s wettest month at 233 mm, driven by the typhoon season that peaks around September 15-25. Temperatures remain warm at 26°C (79°F) by day but humidity begins to drop. October sees a sharp improvement: 208 mm of rain with temperatures cooling to 21°C (70°F) by day and 15°C (59°F) at night. November is one of the driest months outside winter at 110 mm, with comfortable daytime highs of 17°C (63°F) and clear skies that make autumn foliage viewing around Engaku-ji and Kencho-ji temples spectacular. December is the driest month at just 55 mm of rainfall, with daytime highs of 12°C (54°F) and nighttime lows of 5°C (41°F). January is the coldest month at 10°C (50°F) by day and 2°C (36°F) at night, with occasional frost but almost no snow. February brings similar temperatures with 72 mm of rain. Winter skies are the clearest of the year with 6 hours of daily sunshine, and on clear days Mount Fuji is visible from Yuigahama Beach. This is the quietest tourist season with the fewest crowds at temples and shrines, though you will need warm layers, especially for early morning visits.
