Yuigahama and Zaimokuza beaches officially open for swimming from July 1 through August 31, with water temperatures reaching 25-26°C (77-79°F). Beach huts (umi-no-ie) serving grilled squid, cold beer, and shaved ice line the sand. Best Time to Visit Kamakura: When to Avoid and Why
The rainy season (mid-June to mid-July) brings persistent drizzle, high humidity, and gray skies that can make temple-hopping feel like a chore. September is Kamakura’s wettest month at 233 mm, with typhoon risk peaking around September 15-25, often disrupting train services on the JR Yokosuka Line and Enoden railway. New Year’s week (December 29 to January 3) sees massive crowds at Tsurugaoka Hachimangu Shrine for hatsumode (first shrine visit of the year), with queues that can stretch for over an hour.
