Pipa packs a lot into a small clifftop village: resident dolphins, a surf beach, a viewpoint plateau and a handful of trails. Most activities are free or under R$40, and everything sits within walking distance or a short buggy ride of Praia do Centro.

Things to Do in Pipa: Beaches and Bays

Baía dos Golfinhos

This sheltered bay, whose name means Dolphin Bay, is the single most reliable place in Pipa to watch Guiana dolphins feed in the shallows. Reach it on foot along the sand from Praia do Centro at low tide, because the beach route closes as the tide rises. There is no entry fee. Go between 7:00 and 9:00 am on a falling tide and bring binoculars; the dolphins can come within 20 metres of the shoreline. For the best time of year to see them, check the best time to visit Pipa guide.

Praia do Amor

Praia do Amor, named for its heart-shaped bay, is Pipa’s main surf beach. The waves hold 1 to 2 metres in swell season, and surf schools rent boards for around R$50 per hour with a lesson from R$150. The beach is free and open all day, with natural rock pools forming at low tide on the southern end, which is the safest spot for non-swimmers.

Praia do Madeiro

Madeiro sits north of the village below a forested headland and is the calmest swimming beach in Pipa, with soft sand and a gentle slope. Surf schools also run beginner lessons here. The climb down is steep but has wooden steps, and beach barracas rent chairs and umbrellas for about R$20 to R$30 per day. It is the best choice for families with young children.

Praia das Minas

Praia das Minas runs between the Chapadão cliffs and Praia do Amor and is the quietest of the main beaches, with strong surf and few facilities. It is the spot to pick if you want an uncrowded stretch of sand. Walk south from Praia do Amor along the clifftop trail, then descend at the northern end.

Things to Do in Pipa: Viewpoints and Trails

Chapadão

Chapadão is the open clifftop plateau above Praia do Amor and Praia das Minas, and it is where half the town gathers at sunset. The walk up takes 10 minutes from the village centre, is free, and gives a panoramic view south along the red cliffs. Go about 40 minutes before sunset to claim a spot on the grass; bring a drink and watch the sky turn over the water. It is also the heart of the village’s event nights, covered in the Pipa events and festivals guide.

Santuário Ecológico de Pipa

This 80-hectare ecological sanctuary protects Atlantic forest just behind the village, with a network of trails, a lookout tower and resident monkeys and birds. Entry costs around R$30 for adults, and the sanctuary is open daily from about 8:00 am to 4:30 pm. The main trail loop takes 45 minutes to an hour, and the tower gives a view across the treetops to the sea.

Lagoa de Guaraíras

Guaraíras Lagoon sits just south of Pipa near Tibau do Sul and is best visited in the late afternoon, when the light falls across the water. Operators run jet-boat and stand-up paddleboard trips on the lagoon from around R$80 per person. Several waterfront restaurants serve grilled fish and caipirinhas right at the water’s edge.

Things to Do in Pipa: Water and Dunes

Buggy Rides and Sandboarding

Dune buggy tours run from the village to the dunes and lagoons south of Pipa, with a 2 to 3 hour route costing roughly R$150 to R$250 per buggy, which seats two to four people. Drivers stop at dune viewpoints where you can sandboard. Book through a pousada or an operator on Avenida Baía dos Golfinhos rather than through beach touts.

Boat Trips and Paddleboarding

Short boat trips from the village offer a water-level view of the cliffs and a better angle on the dolphin pods in the bay, typically R$60 to R$100 per person for 60 to 90 minutes. Stand-up paddleboard rentals on Praia do Madeiro run around R$60 per hour. The calmer September-to-February water makes this the easiest time for beginners; see the Pipa weather by month guide for monthly sea temperatures.

Things to Do in Pipa: Nightlife and Food

Rua do Céu and Avenida Baía dos Golfinhos

These two streets form Pipa’s nightlife spine, with restaurants, caipirinha bars and forró music spilling onto the pavement most evenings. Rua do Céu is the pedestrian lane for dinner and cocktails, while Avenida Baía dos Golfinhos hosts the bigger venues and beach clubs. Most places open by 7:00 pm and stay busy past midnight on weekends. The surrounding area is mapped in the Pipa neighborhoods guide.

Sunset at a Beach Club

Beach clubs along the clifftop and on the sand sell sunset packages with a drink and a lounger for around R$50 to R$80. The clifftop venues have the best view, so book a table on the edge for the 5:15 pm sunset in winter (June to August) or 5:45 pm in summer.
