Pipa is a clifftop beach village on the eastern tip of Brazil’s Rio Grande do Norte, 85 km south of Natal, where red cliffs drop to dolphin-filled bays and a tropical climate keeps the sea at 27 to 29°C all year. It draws surfers to Praia do Amor, families to the calm water of Madeiro, and sunset crowds to the Chapadão plateau. Rain concentrates in a wet season from March to August, while September to February brings the driest, sunniest weather of the year.

Welcome to Pipa

The village sits inside the municipality of Tibau do Sul and packs its beaches, restaurants and pousadas into a compact grid of two main streets, Avenida Baía dos Golfinhos and the pedestrian Rua do Céu. Everything is walkable, and the biggest daily decisions are which bay to swim at and where to watch the sun go down. Resident Guiana dolphins feed in Baía dos Golfinhos most mornings at low tide, a sight that needs no tour and costs nothing.

Pipa Weather at a Glance

Daytime highs run 28 to 32°C year-round and nights stay between 20 and 23°C, so you will never need more than a light layer. Rainfall is the real variable: April, May and June each bring 207 to 235 mm, while October and November average just 23 to 26 mm. Humidity sits near 80 percent in the wet season and drops to about 70 percent from September to December. Sea temperatures hold at 27 to 29°C every month.

Where to Stay in Pipa

Accommodation in Pipa is mostly pousadas, family-run guesthouses with pools and breakfast. The village centre around Praia do Centro is the most convenient and liveliest, the Praia do Amor cliffs have the best sunset views, and the northern bays of Madeiro and Baía dos Golfinhos are the quiet, family and luxury end. Budget pousadas start around R$200 a night in low season; five-star beachfront properties run several times that.
