The best time to visit Cáceres for comfortable sightseeing is April to mid-June and mid-September to late October, when daytime highs sit between 19°C and 29°C and the old town is pleasant on foot. Avoid July and August unless you can handle average highs of 33°C. This guide breaks the decision down by weather, prices, crowds and events, so you can pick the right month for your trip. For a full overview of the city, read our Cáceres guide. For transport, costs and safety, see our Cáceres travel tips guide.

Best Time to Visit Cáceres for Good Weather

For walking the walled old town without sweating or shivering, aim for April, May, early June, late September or October. April averages a high of 19.3°C (67°F), May 23.7°C (75°F) and October 22.0°C (72°F), all with manageable rain and 200-plus sunshine hours. The monthly numbers are in our Cáceres weather by month guide. October is wetter, at 77 mm, but the rain falls in short bursts rather than whole lost days.

Best Time to Visit Cáceres for Low Prices

The cheapest months are January and February, when hotel rates drop and you can find a double room in the centre from about €45 to €60 a night. January averages a high of 12.0°C and a low of 3.7°C, so bring a warm coat, but you will have the monuments largely to yourself. Weekday stays in November and December are also good value, before the Christmas market crowd arrives in the second half of December. For what to see and do, see our things to do in Cáceres guide.

Best Time to Visit Cáceres for Events

If you want a specific festival, time your trip to one of these windows. WOMAD Cáceres, the free world music festival, runs in early May (7 to 10 May in 2026) across the Plaza Mayor, Plaza de Santa María and Plaza de San Jorge. San Jorge on 23 April brings the burning of the dragon in the Plaza Mayor. The classical theatre festival fills the squares in June, and the medieval market of the three cultures runs in mid-November. The full calendar is in our Cáceres events and festivals article.

Best Time to Visit Cáceres to Avoid Crowds

Cáceres is busiest during WOMAD in early May, Easter week and the long weekends of spring, when Spanish domestic tourism peaks. For the old town almost to yourself, visit on weekdays in January, February or November. If you only have a weekend in high season, enter the Ciudad Monumental before 10 am and after 6 pm, when the day-trippers from Madrid and Seville have left. Our Cáceres neighborhoods guide tells you which areas stay lively after dark.

Best Time to Visit Cáceres: Months to Avoid and Why

July and August are the months to avoid. Both average highs above 33°C (92 to 93°F), with afternoon peaks routinely past 38°C and records over 43°C. Rain is almost zero, at 6 to 7 mm, and there is no coastal breeze, so sightseeing between noon and 7 pm is uncomfortable. Many independent restaurants and shops close for part of August. If you must go in summer, book accommodation with air conditioning, which we list in our where to stay in Cáceres guide, and follow the siesta rhythm of early mornings and late evenings.
