Cáceres has a hot-summer Mediterranean climate (Köppen Csa) that is tempered by its position on the Spanish meseta at 459 m elevation and by Atlantic air that reaches the city in winter. The city records around 551 mm of rain a year, 2,922 hours of sunshine, and average highs that swing from 12.0°C (54°F) in January to 33.7°C (93°F) in July. Summer is dry and very hot, while winter is mild but can drop below freezing on clear nights. This month-by-month guide gives the numbers, so you can plan around the heat, the rain and the sunshine. For a full overview of the city, read our Cáceres guide.

Cáceres Weather by Month: Winter (December to February)
December
December averages a high of 12.5°C (55°F) and a low of 4.9°C (41°F), with 77 mm of rain spread over about 8 wet days. It is the cloudiest month of the year, with only 129 sunshine hours. Pack a warm coat, an umbrella and layers, because evenings around the Christmas lights on the Plaza Mayor sit close to 5°C. For indoor options when it rains, our things to do in Cáceres guide lists the museums. For hotels in each area, see our where to stay in Cáceres guide.
January
January is the coldest month, with an average low of 3.7°C (39°F) and a high of 12.0°C (54°F). Frost is common on clear nights, and the city records around 5 days with minimums near or below freezing. Rainfall sits at 54 mm. Sunshine climbs slightly to 156 hours. It is a quiet, low-price month to visit, which we cover in the best time to visit Cáceres article.
February
February warms a little, with a high of 14.0°C (57°F) and a low of 4.7°C (40°F). Rain eases to 48 mm and sunshine reaches 175 hours. Early almond blossom starts appearing in the countryside around the city by late February, and the first outdoor cafe tables return to the Plaza Mayor on sunny afternoons.
Cáceres Weather by Month: Spring (March to May)
March
March averages a high of 17.7°C (64°F) and a low of 6.7°C (44°F), with rain easing to 36 mm and sunshine climbing to 232 hours. Daytime is pleasant, but mornings and evenings stay cool. This is when the stork colonies return to the towers of the old town, one of the sights described in our things to do in Cáceres list.
April
April brings a high of 19.3°C (67°F) and a low of 8.3°C (47°F). Rain rises again to 52 mm over about 7 wet days, but showers pass quickly and sunshine totals 247 hours. The city celebrates its patron saint on 23 April with the burning of the dragon, detailed in our Cáceres events and festivals guide.
May
May is one of the best weather months: a high of 23.7°C (75°F), a low of 11.5°C (53°F), 50 mm of rain and 297 sunshine hours. Evenings are warm enough to eat outdoors. Early May also brings the free WOMAD world music festival, which fills the squares of the old town.
Cáceres Weather by Month: Summer (June to August)
June
June averages a high of 29.9°C (86°F) and a low of 16.0°C (61°F). Rain drops sharply to 20 mm and sunshine reaches 336 hours. The first genuinely hot afternoons arrive, but nights still cool down enough to sleep comfortably, especially in the old town’s thick stone buildings.
July
July is the hottest and driest month: a high of 33.7°C (93°F), a low of 18.8°C (66°F), only 6 mm of rain and 379 sunshine hours, the sunniest of the year. Afternoon highs regularly exceed 38°C and occasionally touch 43°C. Plan sightseeing for early morning or after 7 pm, and carry water. Humidity drops to a yearly low of 37 percent, so the heat is dry rather than muggy.
August
August is almost identical to July, with a high of 33.2°C (92°F), a low of 18.7°C (66°F) and just 7 mm of rain. Many locals leave for the coast, so some family-run restaurants close for two to three weeks. It is the month we suggest avoiding unless you genuinely enjoy extreme heat, as explained in the best time to visit Cáceres guide.
Cáceres Weather by Month: Autumn (September to November)
September
September cools to a high of 28.8°C (84°F) and a low of 16.0°C (61°F). Rain rises to 30 mm and sunshine sits at 261 hours. The first half still feels like summer, but by late September evenings turn comfortable and the terraces fill again.
October
October is the start of the rainy season, with 77 mm over about 8 wet days. The high drops to 22.0°C (72°F) and the low to 11.9°C (53°F). Sunshine falls to 205 hours. Rain arrives in short, heavy bursts rather than all-day drizzle, so a light waterproof jacket is enough for most days.
November
November is the wettest month of the year at 89 mm and averages a high of 15.9°C (61°F) and a low of 7.5°C (46°F). Sunshine drops to 158 hours. The medieval market of the three cultures fills the old town in mid-November, one of the events in our Cáceres events and festivals guide.
