The best time to visit Le Havre is June to early September, when days average 19 to 21°C (66 to 70°F), rain drops to 8 or 9 days a month, and the summer art trail Un Été au Havre fills the streets. May and September are the best value months: decent weather, fewer crowds, and cheaper hotels than July and August. This guide breaks the year down by weather, prices, crowds, and events, with data from the Le Havre weather by month page.

Best Time to Visit Le Havre for Weather

For the warmest, driest conditions, target July and August: highs of 21°C (70°F), lows of 15 to 16°C (59 to 61°F), and just 50 to 55 mm of rain. If you find 21°C too cool for swimming, note the sea only reaches 18°C (64°F) at best, so this is not a swim-and-sun destination. June and September are nearly as good for sightseeing, at 19°C (66°F), and much less crowded. Avoid November to January if you dislike grey skies; December averages under 2 hours of daily sun and 90 mm of rain.

Best Time to Visit Le Havre for Low Prices

Hotel rates peak in July and August and during the Transat Jacques Vabre sailing race in late October. The cheapest months are January, February, and November, when a central double room at a mid-range hotel can drop below €70 a night against €120 or more in summer. Advance SNCF train tickets from Paris start around €16, but these sell out quickly, so book early regardless of season, and read the rest of our Le Havre travel guide for the wider picture. Best Time to Visit Le Havre to Avoid Crowds

Le Havre is a working port city, not a mass-tourism resort, so crowds are manageable year-round. The busiest days are school holidays, when Parisian families head to the Normandy coast, plus festival weekends. To have the Perret centre, MuMa, and the beach almost to yourself, visit on a weekday in May, June, or September. The museums close on Mondays, which is worth knowing before you plan a long weekend; check the opening days in our things to do in Le Havre guide.

Best Time to Visit Le Havre for Events

Summer is event season. Un Été au Havre runs roughly late June to mid-September with large outdoor art installations, and the Fête de la Mer takes over the port in July. The Dixie Days jazz festival lands in late May or early June, and the Transat Jacques Vabre double-handed sailing race starts from Le Havre every other autumn, next in late October 2027. Full dates and locations are in the Le Havre events and festivals guide.

Best Time to Visit Le Havre: Month by Month

January to February: mild, wet, quiet, and cheap; museums and cafes are the move. March to April: showery and cool, but good for cliff walks. May to June: warming up, festival season begins, best balance of price and weather. July to August: warmest and busiest, peak for the beach and Un Été au Havre. September: still warm, crowds gone, a top pick. October: wetter, but clear light for Étretat and the Transat start. November to December: grey and damp, lowest prices, Christmas market in the centre.
