Vigo’s festival calendar is anchored by three events: the Reconquista re-enactment on 28 March, the Cristo da Vitoria feast on the first Sunday of August, and the Christmas lights that run from late November to early January. Most events are free and take place in the Casco Vello or around the port. The best time to visit Vigo page maps these to the weather, and the full Vigo travel guide covers the practical side.
Vigo Events and Festivals: Spring
Festa da Reconquista (28 March)
On 28 March Vigo re-enacts its 1809 expulsion of Napoleon’s troops. The Casco Vello turns into a 19th-century street market with stalls, period costumes and mock battles. It’s the city’s biggest single-day event and is free, but expect large crowds in the old town neighborhood and arrive early.
Semana Santa (Holy Week)
Holy Week processions move through the old town in the week before Easter, with dates shifting between late March and mid-April. The main processions leave from the Concatedral de Santa MarÃa. It’s quieter than Seville’s version but has strong local participation.
Vigo Events and Festivals: Summer
Festas de Cristo da Vitoria (First Sunday of August)
The feast of Christ of Victory, on the first Sunday of August, is Vigo’s patronal festival. It features a procession of the Cristo da Vitoria statue from the Concatedral and a week of concerts, fairground rides and fireworks around the port. Entry is free. It pairs well with the summer things to do in Vigo around the waterfront.
O Marisquiño (August)
O Marisquiño is an extreme sports and urban culture festival held in mid-August, with skateboarding, BMX and basketball around the port and Samil. Dates shift each year but are announced in spring. Most events are free to watch.
Festa do Mar (August)
The Sea Festival in August celebrates Vigo’s fishing heritage with boat parades, seafood tastings and music along the waterfront. It’s free and family-friendly.
Vigo Events and Festivals: Autumn and Winter
Vigo Christmas Lights (Late November to 6 January)
Vigo’s Christmas lights, around 11 million LEDs strung along Gran VÃa, PrÃncipe and the port, draw visitors from across Spain. They switch on in late November and run to 6 January, and the display is free and best seen after sunset. December’s 231mm of rain and 12.7°C (55°F) highs mean a coat and umbrella are worth bringing, as noted in our Vigo weather by month guide. Hotels near the lights fill up, so check where to stay in Vigo early.
Sinsal Audio (dates vary)
Sinsal Audio is an independent music festival held in unusual venues around the city, usually in autumn. Lineup and dates are announced a few months ahead; day tickets are typically €20 to €30. Transport options are in our Vigo travel tips guide.
