Vigo’s neighborhoods range from the cobbled Casco Vello old town to the grid of the 19th-century Ensanche and the beachside district of Samil. The centre is compact enough to walk, while Bouzas and Samil are short bus rides away. Hotel prices below are typical averages per night, and the where to stay in Vigo page has specific hotel picks. The main Vigo travel guide ties it all together.

Best Neighborhoods in Vigo: Casco Vello (Old Town)

Casco Vello

The old town wraps around Praza da Constitución, Rúa da Pescadería (Oyster Street) and the Concatedral. It’s the tapas and nightlife quarter, best for first-time visitors and food-focused travellers, and home to several things to do in Vigo like the oyster stalls. Most attractions, the port and the Cíes ferry pier are within a 10-minute walk, and the Reconquista festival takes over these streets each March. Hotels here average €70 to €120 a night.

Best Neighborhoods in Vigo: Centro and Ensanche

Ensanche (Gran Vía and Príncipe)

The Ensanche is Vigo’s commercial grid, built in the late 19th century and centred on Gran Vía and Rúa del Príncipe. It’s where the big shops, the MARCO museum and most business hotels sit, and it suits shoppers and business travellers. Hotels average €80 to €140 a night, and Urzaiz AVE station is at the eastern edge. May and June are good months to browse here, as covered in the best time to visit Vigo guide.

Areal

The Areal is the waterfront strip between the port and the Ensanche, home to the cruise terminal and newer apartment hotels. It suits cruise passengers and anyone wanting sea views within walking distance of the centre.

Best Neighborhoods in Vigo: Coastal Districts

Bouzas

Bouzas is a former fishing village a 10-minute bus ride west, with the city’s best seafood restaurants and a small beach. It suits food-focused travellers and families, and guesthouses and small hotels here run €60 to €100 a night. Bus routes and fares are in our Vigo travel tips guide.

Samil and Coia

Samil is the beach neighbourhood, built around the 1.7km Praia de Samil and its promenade. Coia is the adjoining residential district, also home to the Balaídos stadium where Celta Vigo plays. Best for families and beachgoers in summer, when the Vigo weather by month is at its warmest and driest. Hotels here average €70 to €110 a night.
