The best time to visit Vigo depends on whether you want beach weather, festivals, or low prices. June through September delivers the warmest, driest conditions, while November to February is wettest and cheapest. July and August are the busiest months, when Spaniards take their holidays and the Cíes Islands day-pass quota sells out. Month-by-month numbers are in our Vigo weather by month guide.
Best Time to Visit Vigo: June to September for Weather
June, July, August and September give you the best weather. July and August average highs of 24.9°C and 25.2°C (77°F) with only 40 to 48mm of rain each. June averages 22.7°C (73°F) and 56mm, September 23.2°C (74°F) and 95mm. These are the months for Samil beach, ferry trips to the Cíes Islands, and the outdoor things to do in Vigo like the Castro viewpoint and oyster stalls.
Best Time to Visit Vigo: Shoulder Season for Fewer Crowds
May, June and September offer warm-enough weather with thinner crowds than July and August. May averages 19.8°C (68°F), September 23.2°C (74°F). You’ll find more hotel availability and can still get a Cíes Islands permit without booking weeks ahead. May and September also catch the edges of the Vigo festivals and events season without the August peak.
Best Time to Visit Vigo: November to February for Lowest Prices
Hotel rates drop 30 to 50 percent in winter. Expect highs of 12 to 14°C (54 to 57°F) and 143 to 236mm of monthly rain. The payoff is the Christmas season, when Vigo’s roughly 11 million LED lights draw crowds of visitors from late November to early January and the old-town Vigo neighborhoods are at their most atmospheric.
Best Time to Visit Vigo: Which Months to Avoid
Avoid November if you dislike rain: it averages 236mm, the wettest month. October (208mm) and December (231mm) are nearly as wet. If you want beach weather, skip December to March, when highs stay under 16°C (61°F) and the sea is around 13°C (55°F). Practical packing and transport details are in our Vigo travel tips guide.
Best Time to Visit Vigo: Month by Month Summary
December to February are wet and mild, with highs of 12 to 14°C (54 to 57°F). March to May warm from 16°C to 20°C (61 to 68°F) with 113 to 153mm of monthly rain.
