Logroño’s calendar is built around wine and the harvest, with the week-long Fiestas de San Mateo in September as the headline. Smaller fiestas fill June, and a music festival opens the year. Dates below are for planning; the best time to visit Logroño guide shows which months suit a visit, and the Logroño city guide links the full set of guides.

Logroño Events and Festivals: September Harvest

Fiestas de San Mateo (Vendimia Riojana)

Logroño’s biggest festival runs for a week from 21 September, marking the grape harvest. It opens with the Pisado de la Uva, when performers tread the first grapes in the Plaza del Ayuntamiento and offer the must to the Virgen de Valvanera, patron of La Rioja. The week brings concerts, bullfights, fireworks over the Ebro, giant figures and open-air peñas. Book hotels months ahead, as the city fills completely. The Logroño weather by month guide shows September’s 19.3°C average.

Logroño Events and Festivals: Summer

Batalla del Vino de Haro

On 29 June, the town of Haro, 45km west of Logroño, hosts a mass wine fight on the cliffs of Bilibio. Thousands dress in white and drench each other with red wine from bottles, buckets and backpack sprayers from about 7am to mid-morning. It is free to join; take a train from Logroño (about 40 minutes) or join a tour bus, and wear clothes you can throw away. See the Logroño travel tips guide for the train to Haro.

San Bernabé

Logroño’s patron saint day on 11 June commemorates the city’s survival of a 1521 siege. The fiesta centres on the Puerta del Revellín in the old town, where bread, fish and wine are distributed in a re-enactment of the siege relief. It is a smaller, locals-first celebration with processions and street stalls. Book early; the where to stay in Logroño guide lists hotels.

Logroño Events and Festivals: Winter and Spring

Actual Festival

Actual is a music and arts festival held in early January, taking over the Riojaforum and venues across the centre. It books Spanish and international indie acts and is a rare reason to visit in the low season. Tickets for headline shows cost €15 to €35 and sell through the festival’s own site. The neighborhoods in Logroño guide covers the districts around the venue.

Semana Santa

Holy Week processions run from Palm Sunday to Easter Sunday, with hooded brotherhoods carrying floats through the old town, especially on Maundy Thursday and Good Friday evening. It is quieter than the Andalusian versions but atmospheric, and many bodegas stay open for tastings. The things to do in Logroño guide lists sights to pair with the processions.
