- Spring (March to May): Hydrangeas begin blooming in April, transforming the island into a sea of blue. - Summer (June to September): The busiest tourist season, with highs of 24°C to 25°C (75°F to 77°F) and the driest weather (30-50mm monthly rain). Even in summer, carry a light waterproof jacket: brief showers are common.
- Autumn (October to November): Rain increases to 100-140mm per month, temperatures hold at 19°C to 22°C (66°F to 72°F). October can deliver extended sunny spells. November is the transition month. Fewer tourists mean lower hotel rates and quieter trails. Storms from Atlantic depressions become more frequent in November.
- Winter (December to February): The wettest season with 120-150mm of rain per month. Highs of 16°C to 17°C (61°F to 63°F) and lows around 11°C (52°F). Horta Marina quiets down, but cafes and restaurants stay open. Strong Atlantic swells attract experienced surfers to the north coast breaks. Some hiking trails on higher ground close after heavy rain.
