Kurashiki Weather by Month: Winter (December to February)

Winter is the driest season, with January rainfall of just 34mm and clear skies that suit walking the Bikan Historical Quarter without an umbrella. Nights drop to around freezing, so pack a coat, but snow is rare in the city. This is the quietest and cheapest period to visit, and it overlaps with the hina doll displays of late February.

Kurashiki Weather by Month: Spring (March to May)

March warms to 12°C (54°F) and cherry blossoms typically open in the Bikan quarter in late March to early April. May reaches 23°C (73°F) with around 102mm of rain, making it one of the most comfortable months for canal boat rides and day trips to Naoshima. See our best time to visit Kurashiki guide for exact bloom windows.

Kurashiki Weather by Month: Summer (June to August)

June and July bring tsuyu, the rainy season: July is the wettest month at 154mm across roughly 12 wet days, with humidity sitting above 70 percent. August dries off to 81mm but stays hot, with highs of 31°C (88°F) and lows of 24°C (75°F). If you come in July, time it for the Tenryo Summer Festival, listed in our Kurashiki events and festivals guide, and book early since hotels sell out; see the where to stay in Kurashiki guide for options near the route.

Kurashiki Weather by Month: Autumn (September to November)

September is still warm and is the tail of typhoon season, with 133mm of rain, so carry a compact umbrella. By late October and November the heat breaks to 16-22°C (61-72°F), rainfall drops to around 51mm in November, and the maples in the Bikan quarter turn colour.
