Imperia is made of two formerly separate towns, Porto Maurizio and Oneglia, sitting on opposite banks of the River Impero, plus smaller frazioni in the hills. Your choice of neighborhood changes the whole feel of the trip: hilltop medieval lanes versus a flat working waterfront. Here is a practical breakdown with typical hotel prices. See where to stay in Imperia for specific hotel picks. For date planning, see our best time to visit Imperia guide.

Imperia Neighborhoods: Porto Maurizio

Porto Maurizio is the western, wealthier half, spread up a peninsula under the Parasio old town. The carrugi lanes, the Basilica di San Maurizio, and the yachting marina define it. It suits first-time visitors and couples who want atmosphere and views. Mid-range and four-star hotels here, such as the Croce di Malta near Borgo Marina, run roughly EUR 90-160 a night in season, dropping to EUR 60-100 off-season. The uphill climbs mean it is less ideal for anyone with mobility limits. See our Imperia weather by month for more.

Imperia Neighborhoods: Oneglia

Oneglia is the eastern, more industrial and modern half, built on flat alluvial ground around Piazza Dante and the working port. It holds the Olive Museum, Villa Grock, the railway station, and the Calata G.B. Cuneo restaurant quay. It suits families and food-focused travelers who value flat, easy walking. Budget and mid-range options dominate, around EUR 60-120 a night, with the B&B Hotel Rossini al Teatro and Soggiorno Marino San Giuseppe both here. It is also where Olioliva happens each November.

Imperia Neighborhoods: Borgo Prino and the Waterfront

Borgo Prino runs along the western waterfront near the river mouth, with Spiaggia d’Oro beach and the start of the coastal cycle path. It suits beach-goers and cyclists who want the sea a short walk from bed. Prices sit mid-range at EUR 80-140 a night in summer. Sunbeds and lidos cluster here in July and August. This area also connects fastest to the Pista Ciclabile cycle path.

Imperia Neighborhoods: Montegrazie and the Hills

High above the city, the frazioni of Montegrazie, Artallo and Costa d’Oneglia spread through olive groves and flower terraces, home to the Shrine of Nostra Signora delle Grazie at Montegrazie. These hill villages suit drivers and slow-travel guests looking for silence and agriturismo stays. Prices are the lowest in town, often EUR 50-90 a night for country rooms. You will need a car, as buses (Riviera Trasporti) run infrequently up the valleys. See our Imperia travel tips for getting around.
