Indore sits on the Malwa plateau at 553 metres (1,814 ft) above sea level in central India, which keeps its climate drier and slightly cooler than cities on the Gangetic plain. The city gets about 930mm of rain a year, and nearly all of it falls in the four monsoon months from June to September. Expect three clear seasons: a hot, dry summer from March to June, a wet monsoon from late June to September, and a mild, sunny winter from November to February. Bookmark the Indore city guide for the full overview.

Indore Weather by Month: January to March

January and February are the coolest, driest months of the year, which is why they draw the most visitors. Days reach 26 to 29°C (79 to 84°F) and nights drop to 10 to 12°C (50 to 54°F), so you’ll want a light jacket after sunset. March warms up fast to a 34°C (93°F) daytime high as summer begins, with night lows around 17°C (63°F). Rainfall in all three months stays under 5mm. Check the events and festivals in Indore calendar if you are timing a March visit for Rang Panchami.

Indore Weather by Month: April to June

April and May are the hottest months, and May averages 40°C (104°F) during the day with lows around 26°C (79°F). Heatwaves can push daytime highs past 44°C (111°F), so plan indoor sightseeing between 12:00 and 16:00. June stays hot at 36°C (97°F) but the first monsoon rains usually arrive in the second half of the month, bringing 120mm and a sharp drop in temperature by late June. Our neighborhoods guide points you to the air-conditioned malls where locals ride out the May heat.

Indore Weather by Month: July to September (Monsoon)

The southwest monsoon peaks in July with about 290mm of rain and an average high of just 29°C (84°F). August is similar at 260mm and 28°C (82°F), and September tapers to 180mm and 30°C (86°F). Humidity sits near 80 percent through these months. Roads can flood briefly after heavy downpours, and Patalpani Waterfall and Tincha Falls are at their fullest, so this is the best season for waterfall day trips even though you’ll need an umbrella daily. The Indore travel tips page has monsoon transport advice.

Indore Weather by Month: October to December

October is a transition month with 32°C (90°F) days, about 40mm of rain early in the month, and dropping humidity. November and December are the second dry season: November averages 29°C (84°F) by day and 14°C (57°F) at night, and December cools to 26°C (79°F) by day and 10°C (50°F) at night. December nights are the year’s coldest, so pack a sweater if you visit in December. Check the full month-by-month numbers in our best time to visit Indore guide before you book flights.

Sunshine peaks in the dry season at 9 to 10 hours a day from October to May, then drops to 3 to 4 hours during July and August. Indore is inland, so there is no sea temperature data, but the city’s elevation keeps monsoon humidity a notch below Mumbai or Kolkata.
