The best time to visit Bhopal is from October to March, when daytime highs stay between 25°C and 33°C (77 to 91°F), humidity is low, and the city’s lakes, hilltop temples and open-air monuments are comfortable to explore. The peak tourist season runs November to February, which coincides with clear skies and the Lokrang festival, while the hottest months of April and May and the wettest months of July and August are the periods most travellers should avoid. Best Time to Visit Bhopal: Best Weather (October to March)

October to March delivers the most reliable weather of the year. November is the sweet spot, with highs of 29°C (84°F), lows around 15°C (59°F) and only about 21 mm of rain. December and January are cooler, dropping to lows of 11 to 12°C (52 to 54°F), which is ideal for walking the Upper Lake promenade and climbing to Birla Mandir. Sunshine runs about 10 hours a day in this window, and rain rarely interrupts plans. Read our Bhopal neighborhoods for more.

Check the full Bhopal weather by month table before you lock in dates. February brings mild days near 28°C (82°F) and is a favourite for outdoor sightseeing before the heat returns in March.

Best Time to Visit Bhopal: Lowest Prices (April to September)

Hotel rates drop 30 to 50 percent between April and September, because the extreme heat of May and the monsoon rain of July and August keep most leisure travellers away. You can book a four-star room in MP Nagar for under 4,000 rupees a night in July, versus 6,000 to 8,000 rupees in peak winter. The trade-off is the weather, but if you are on a budget and do not mind carrying an umbrella, July and August offer the cheapest beds of the year. Read our Bhopal travel tips for more.

Airfares into Raja Bhoj Airport (BHO) also fall outside the November to February peak, especially on midweek departures. For the best room deals, compare options in our where to stay in Bhopal guide, which lists hotels by area and budget tier.

Best Time to Visit Bhopal: Fewest Crowds (May to August)

Bhopal is a state capital and business hub, so it never empties out like a resort town, but tourist traffic at Van Vihar National Park, the Tribal Museum and Bhimbetka thins out noticeably from May through August. You can have whole galleries nearly to yourself on a Tuesday morning in July. The downside is that the heat in May or the mud and rain in the monsoon make some outdoor sites less enjoyable. Best Time to Visit Bhopal: Events and Festivals

Two dates anchor the calendar. The Lokrang festival runs every year from 26 to 30 January at Ravindra Bhavan, a five-day showcase of tribal and folk dance that draws performers from across India and is free to attend. Diwali, which falls in October or November depending on the lunar calendar, lights up the lakes with fireworks and draws big evening crowds to the Chowk bazaar. Best Time to Visit Bhopal: Months to Avoid

Avoid May and early June, when the average high hits 40°C (104°F) and the record has reached 48°C (118°F). Sightseeing after 11 am becomes unsafe in the open sun, and the dry heat makes hilltop sites like Birla Mandir exhausting. July and August are the other poor window, not for heat but for the monsoon, which brings 345 mm and 432 mm of rain respectively and can flood roads in the Old City.

April is manageable only if you start early and retreat indoors by midday, while late September and early October mark a transitional period when the rain tapers off but humidity lingers. For a first visit, aim for November, December, January or February.
