Over 200 traditional sailing ships, tall ships, and historic vessels from a dozen countries moor along the Warnow River and in Rostock harbour. The highlight is the ship parade on Saturday afternoon, when the fleet sails in formation down the Warnow toward the Baltic. Rostock Events & Festivals: Warnemünde Week
Warnemünde Week (Warnemünder Woche) runs for 8 days in early July, centered on the first full weekend. It combines a major international sailing regatta with a beachfront music and cultural festival. The sporting side attracts Olympic-class sailors in the Warnemünde Cup, with races visible from the beach and pier. The cultural side fills the promenade with open-air concerts, sand sculpture competitions, and nightly fireworks over the lighthouse (usually Friday or Saturday of the opening weekend). Beach volleyball tournaments and kids’ maritime workshops round out the program. Food stalls serve local Warnemünde smoked fish and Rostocker Bockbier along the promenade. Most events are free. Rostock Events & Festivals: Rostock Christmas Market
The Rostock Christmas Market (Rostocker Weihnachtsmarkt) runs from late November (usually the Monday before the first Advent) through December 23. It is the largest Christmas market in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, spread across Neuer Markt, Kröpeliner Strasse, and the Universitätsplatz. The Kröpeliner Tor Festival (Kröpeliner Tor Fest) is a one-day street and music festival held on a Saturday in mid-June in the KTV neighborhood. Kröpeliner Strasse closes to traffic from the city gate westward, and the streets fill with live bands on multiple stages, street food from 30+ vendors, flea market stalls, and children’s activities. The festival celebrates the KTV district’s identity as Rostock’s creative and student quarter. It draws about 50,000 visitors across the day, running from 11:00 AM to midnight. Entry is free. Rostocker Osterwiese (Easter Fair)
A traditional German spring fair with carnival rides, beer tents, and food stalls, held in the IGA Park for two weeks around Easter (late March or April). The fair dates back to the 19th century. Fusion Festival
Though actually held 50km south of Rostock at the former Lärz military airfield, Fusion is one of Germany’s major counterculture music and arts festivals and many attendees pass through Rostock. It runs for 4 days in late June or early July (dates announced in February). Tickets sell out within minutes of release in December , it is not a casual drop-in event. If you are in Rostock during Fusion weekend, you will see the festival migration at the train station.
Rostocker Kulturnacht (Culture Night)
A city-wide evening when museums, galleries, churches, and studios open their doors from 7:00 PM to midnight with special exhibitions, live music, and performances. Held on a Saturday in late September or early October. A EUR 10 wristband gives access to all venues, with free shuttle buses between locations. A great way to see the Cultural History Museum and St. Peter’s Church at night.
Warnemünde Kite Festival
A weekend event on Warnemünde beach in late April or early May, with professional kite fliers demonstrating giant show kites, stunt kite competitions, and workshops for children. Free to watch, and the spring beach setting before the summer crowds arrive is a bonus.
