Best Time to Visit Nancy: Late Spring, April to June
Late April to mid-June is the single best window for sightseeing. Temperatures average 10°C in April, 14°C in May and 18°C in June, with daytime highs of 15°C to 22°C (59°F to 72°F) and only 67 to 75 mm of rain a month. Hotel prices sit in the shoulder-season band, usually 20 to 30 percent below July levels. Best Time to Visit Nancy: Summer, July and August
July and August are warmest, averaging 19°C to 20°C with highs near 25°C (77°F) and 220 hours of sunshine a month, but they also bring the most tourists. The Nancy Jazz Pulsations festival runs in early July, drawing larger crowds to the squares, and on sunny weekends Place Stanislas fills with cafe terraces. Best Time to Visit Nancy: Autumn, September and October
September is a strong second choice: highs average 20°C (68°F) and the summer crowds leave after the first week of school. October cools to average 10°C with daytime highs around 15°C (59°F), but the autumn colour in the Pepiniere and along rue Stanislas makes it the most photogenic month. Best Time to Visit Nancy: Winter and the Saint Nicolas Festival
November through February is the cheapest and coldest season, with January averaging 2.7°C (37°F). The one exception is the Saint Nicolas festival, which runs from 20 November 2026 to 3 January 2027 and finishes with the grand illuminated parade on Place Stanislas on 5 December 2026. If you visit for the festival, dress for 0°C to 5°C evenings and book November lodging early, before prices rise for December. Outside festival weeks, winter is dead quiet and heavily discounted.
