Balneário Camboriú is a compact city stretched along one bay, and its neighborhoods break down by which stretch of the beach they front. The centre around Praia Central is the busiest and most convenient, Barra Sul in the south is the family and cable car district, and the northern beaches of Praia dos Amores and Brava are the quiet, upscale end. Here is what each area is like and roughly what you will pay for a room.

Balneário Camboriú Neighborhoods: The Beachfront Centre

Centro (Praia Central)

Centro runs along Praia Central between the Avenida Atlântica boardwalk and Avenida Brasil, and it is the city’s commercial and nightlife core. It is the best base if you want to walk to restaurants, shops and the beach without a car, and it suits first-time visitors, groups and anyone here for the nightlife. Mid-range hotels in Centro run roughly R$300 to R$500 a night in the shoulder season and R$600 to R$1,000 in January. For specific hotels, see our where to stay in Balneário Camboriú guide.

Barra Sul

Barra Sul is the southern end of the bay, anchored by the Unipraias cable car station, the Molhe da Barra Sul pier and the Oceanic Aquarium. It is quieter than Centro at night and is the most convenient district for families doing the cable car, aquarium and theme attractions. Hotel prices are similar to Centro but skew slightly lower, around R$250 to R$450 a night outside peak season. This district is also where most boat and pirate-ship tours leave from the pier. Balneário Camboriú Neighborhoods: The Northern Beaches

Praia dos Amores

Praia dos Amores sits at the north end of the city and is the most upscale residential beach, home to the Felissimo and Infinity Blue hotels and the FG Big Wheel. It has bigger waves than Praia Central and far fewer people, which makes it the pick for couples and anyone after a quieter, more premium stay. Rooms here cost more, with the boutique and resort properties running R$500 to R$1,500 a night. Read our best time to visit Balneário Camboriú guide before locking in a season.

Praia Brava (Itajaí)

Praia Brava is technically in neighbouring Itajaí, just past Praia dos Amores, and is a surf beach with strong waves and a small strip of beach bars and pousadas. It suits surfers and younger travelers, and it is cheaper than Praia dos Amores, with guesthouse rooms often under R$300 a night. It is about a 10 minute drive from the Centro. Balneário Camboriú Neighborhoods: The Southern Beaches

Taquaras, Taquarinhas and Estaleiro

The southern beaches of Taquaras, Taquarinhas and Estaleiro, reached along the Interpraias road about 8 to 12 km from the centre, are quieter and greener, backed by hills rather than towers. These are where locals and long-stay visitors go for cleaner water and calmer crowds, and they suit families with a car and anyone who wants a beach-house feel. Pousadas and holiday rentals here run roughly R$200 to R$450 a night. They are far enough out that you will want transport, covered in our Balneário Camboriú travel tips.

Balneário Camboriú Neighborhoods: The Inland Districts

Nações and the Residential Hills

The Nações district, set back from the beach on the slopes of Morro da Cruz, is home to the Cristo Luz statue and offers the cheapest rents in the city along with views over the bay. The inland residential areas of Bairro dos Municípios and Vila Real sit a few blocks behind the beachfront and are a short walk or bus ride to the sand. These areas suit budget travelers and long-stay visitors, with apartments and small hotels from about R$150 to R$300 a night. For the best sightseeing on the hills, see our things to do in Balneário Camboriú guide, and for what is happening through the year, check events in Balneário Camboriú.
