Bonito can be visited all year, but the dry season from April to September is the clear winner for snorkeling because that is when the rivers run clearest. If you want waterfalls at full power, go in the wet season. This guide gives exact date windows for weather, prices, crowds and the main festival, as part of the complete Bonito travel guide.
Best Time to Visit Bonito for Clear Water and Snorkeling
The best window is May to August. Rainfall drops to 54 to 71 mm a month and underwater visibility reaches 30 meters or more in the Rio da Prata and Rio Sucuri. Daytime highs are 25°C to 28°C (77°F to 83°F), comfortable for full days outside. The tradeoff is cooler nights at 15°C (59°F), so river floats feel chilly early in the morning, and you will wear a wetsuit, which every tour operator provides. See the Bonito weather by month page for the month-by-month numbers.
Best Time to Visit Bonito for Lower Prices and Fewer Crowds
The cheapest months are March, April, October and November, the shoulder periods on either side of the peak. Attractions charge a low-season rate in these months: the Gruta do Lago Azul drops from R$ 160 to about R$ 100, and Rio da Prata flutuação from R$ 475 to R$ 360. Hotels are quieter too, so use the where to stay in Bonito guide to find shoulder-season deals.
Best Time to Visit Bonito: Month by Month
January and February are hot (30°C, 86°F), wet, and crowded with Brazilian summer holidaymakers. March and April see rain ease and prices fall. May to August are dry, cool at night, and ideal for snorkeling. September warms up with little rain until late in the month, and October and November bring the first storms. The Bonito events and festivals calendar has exact dates, and the things to do in Bonito list shows which tours to book for each month.
Best Time to Visit Bonito: Worst Months and What to Avoid
December to February are the hardest months for snorkeling: heavy rain raises the rivers and cuts visibility, and prices peak. July is the busiest dry-season month because of the Festival de Inverno, so book lodging two to three months ahead and read the Bonito neighborhoods guide to pick a quieter base. Whatever the season, the Bonito travel tips page covers voucher rules and getting around.
