Aranjuez sits 48 km (30 miles) south of Madrid in the Tagus river valley at about 495 m (1,624 ft) of elevation. The town has a continental Mediterranean climate: long, hot, dry summers and cool winters with the occasional frost. You get roughly 2,900 hours of sunshine a year and only about 47 rainy days, so most trips stay dry. This guide walks through the numbers month by month so you can pack correctly.
Aranjuez Weather by Month: Climate at a Glance
The two numbers that matter most: July averages a high of 33°C (91°F), and January averages a low of 2°C (36°F). Annual rainfall runs about 405 to 470 mm spread over roughly 47 days, and the wettest stretch is spring and autumn. October is the rainiest month (about 48 mm), while July and August together see barely 18 mm. Because Aranjuez sits in a river valley away from the coast, it has no sea influence, so heat builds quickly in summer and drops fast on winter nights.
Aranjuez Weather by Month: Winter (December to February)
December through February brings highs of 11 to 13°C (52 to 55°F) and lows of 2 to 4°C (36 to 39°F). January is the coldest month and frost on clear nights is common. Rain is light, about 29 to 39 mm a month, and snow is rare, though a dusting has been known to fall. The palace and gardens stay open on winter weekends, as listed in our things to do guide, and the low crowds make this a budget season. Check the best time to visit guide for exact date windows.
Aranjuez Weather by Month: Spring (March to May)
Spring warms quickly, from highs of 16°C (61°F) in March to 24°C (75°F) in May. Nights still sit cool at 6 to 12°C (43 to 54°F). This is the wettest stretch of the year: March and April together average about 106 mm across up to 10 rainy days each. April is the single rainiest month at around 63 mm. The gardens burst into bloom, which is why the events and festivals calendar clusters here with the early music festival.
Aranjuez Weather by Month: Summer (June to August)
Summer is hot and almost completely dry. July averages 33°C (91°F) by day and 20°C (68°F) at night, and daytime highs regularly pass 35°C (95°F). Rainfall drops to 9 mm in July and August combined, with only one or two rainy days a month. Plan sightseeing for before 11:00 or after 18:00, and book a room with air conditioning, as flagged in our where to stay guide.
Aranjuez Weather by Month: Autumn (September to November)
September still feels like summer, with highs of 28°C (82°F), before October drops to 21°C (70°F) and November to 15°C (59°F). Rain returns in October and November at about 48 mm each, often as short showers rather than all-day rain. Early September also hosts the Fiestas del Motin, when the weather is usually dry and warm. See the travel tips and FAQ guide for what to pack in each season.
