The best time to visit Aranjuez for most people is April to early June or mid-September to October, when daytime highs sit between 19 and 28°C (66 to 82°F) and the gardens are at their best. Summer is hot, and winter is quiet but can be gray. Here is how to time your trip around weather, crowds, and events.
Best Time to Visit Aranjuez: Best Weather (April to June and September to October)
For comfortable sightseeing, aim for late April through early June, when highs run 19 to 27°C (66 to 81°F), or the second half of September through October, when they ease from 28°C down to 21°C (70°F). Both windows keep rain moderate, about 29 to 48 mm a month. The palace gardens, especially the Prince’s Garden, look their best in May when the formal beds are planted. Avoid July and August if you dislike heat: highs of 33°C (91°F) plus full sun make the long garden walks exhausting after 14:00. Pack layers for the cool evenings, as the travel tips and FAQ guide explains.
Best Time to Visit Aranjuez: Fewest Crowds (November to February)
Weekday visits from November through February are the emptiest, when highs hover at 11 to 15°C (52 to 59°F) and you can often have whole palace rooms to yourself. The trade-off is shorter daylight and the risk of frost on January mornings. February brings the Carnavales, a lively local break from the quiet. Winter is also when where to stay prices drop, and you can pick a quieter base from our neighborhoods guide.
Best Time to Visit Aranjuez: Best Events (Late May and Early September)
Two festivals anchor the calendar. The Fiestas de San Fernando run around May 27 to 31 and fill the town with concerts, bullfights in the Plaza de Toros, and fireworks. The Fiestas del Motin de Aranjuez, held the first week of September (about September 2 to 6), reenacts the 1808 uprising with costumed residents, an assault on Godoy’s house, and the Descenso Pirata del Tajo river race. The Festival de Musica Antigua runs weekends in May and June. For the full rundown, see the events and festivals guide.
Best Time to Visit Aranjuez: Cheapest Prices (January, February, and August)
January and February are the cheapest months for hotels, when mid-range rooms can drop 20 to 30 percent below spring rates. August is the other bargain window: Madrid empties out, so Aranjuez fills with locals but hotels often discount midweek. Flights to Madrid are cheapest in January and November. Pair a cheap bed with a dry June or September day trip and you get most of the experience for less, as covered in our things to do guide.
Best Time to Visit Aranjuez: Months to Avoid and Why
Avoid July and August if you are sensitive to heat: average highs of 32 to 33°C (90 to 91°F) and direct sun over the open gardens make midday walking unpleasant. Avoid the whole of Holy Week and the May long weekends if you dislike crowds, when Madrilenos day-trip in numbers. Check the weather by month guide for the exact temperatures before you book, and the Aranjuez city guide for a complete overview.
