Deauville Weather by Season

Spring (March to May)

March highs climb from 11°C (52°F) toward 17°C (63°F) by late May, with rainfall easing from 57mm in March to 46mm in April. April and May are the driest months of the year, and daily sunshine rises from 4 to 7 hours. The flat-racing season opens at Deauville-La Touques racecourse in April, and the town’s gardens come into bloom. Pack a light jacket: nights stay near 5°C (41°F) well into May.

Summer (June to August)

July and August peak at 22°C (72°F) by day and 13 to 14°C (55 to 57°F) at night, with 7 to 8 hours of daily sun. July is the driest month at 47mm of rain. Sea temperatures rise to 16 to 18°C (61 to 64°F), warm enough for swimming through August. Evenings stay cool, so bring a sweater for dinner on the boardwalk. This is the busiest and most expensive season, when the beach and Les Planches are at their fullest.

Autumn (September to November)

September holds at 20°C (68°F) with 6 hours of sun, ideal weather for the Deauville American Film Festival in early September. Rainfall climbs through autumn, reaching 85mm in November, the wettest month. October brings 74mm and highs of 16°C (61°F). Many hotels and restaurants close from mid-November to early spring once the August yearling horse sales wrap up.

Winter (December to February)

December to February is cool and damp, with highs of 8°C (46°F), lows of 3°C (37°F) and only 2 to 3 hours of daily sun. December is the wettest month at 80mm. Frost is possible on clear nights but snow is rare and rarely settles. A large share of hotels and restaurants shut down for the season; the Deauville Christmas market in December is the main draw.

Deauville Weather and Sea Temperature

The English Channel never gets truly warm. Sea temperature at Deauville peaks at 18°C (64°F) in August and holds at 16 to 17°C (61 to 63°F) through September. Swimmers who can handle cooler water swim from July to mid-September. If you want a guaranteed swim outside those months, the heated Olympic seawater pool (Piscine Olympique) on the beachfront is open year-round; see the things to do in Deauville list for hours and prices.
