Hermosillo spreads outward from a compact historic centre, with the most useful areas for visitors clustered along Boulevard Kino and the river. Distances are short by car, and rideshare trips across town rarely cost more than MXN 100 (US$5). Here are the Hermosillo neighborhoods worth knowing, with rough hotel price ranges. For specific hotels, see our where to stay guide.
Hermosillo Neighborhoods: Central Districts
Centro Histórico
The historic centre runs along Calle Comonfort and around Plaza Zaragoza, home to the cathedral, Government Palace, and the oldest streets in the city. It’s where most of the things to do are concentrated, and it’s lively in the evening when the heat eases. Hotel prices average MXN 700 to 1,500 (US$35 to 75) a night. It suits first-time visitors who want to walk everywhere.
Vado del Río
Vado del Río sits just south of the centre along the river, beside the state government complex and the US Consulate. It’s more modern and business-oriented, with several chain hotels and good road access. Nightly rates run MXN 800 to 1,500 (US$40 to 75). It’s a practical base for business travelers and anyone with consulate or government appointments.
Hermosillo Neighborhoods: Upscale and Financial Areas
Colonia Pitic
Pitic, in the north of the city around Boulevard Kino, is the upscale residential and financial district. It holds the city’s best hotels, the Fiesta Americana and Holiday Inn among them, plus the most restaurants and bars. Hotel prices run MXN 1,500 to 3,000 (US$75 to 150) a night. It suits couples, business travelers, and anyone who wants dining and comfort in one place.
Las Quintas
Las Quintas, northwest of Pitic, is a quiet, leafy neighbourhood of large homes and gated streets near the Country Club. It has few hotels but is close to the best of Pitic’s restaurants, and short-term rentals here run MXN 1,500 to 3,500 (US$75 to 175) a night. It’s best for families or longer stays who want a residential feel.
Hermosillo Neighborhoods: North and Outlying Areas
Colosio
Colonia Colosio is a large, mostly residential district in the northwest, centred on Boulevard Luis Donaldo Colosio. It’s where you’ll find several mid-range chain hotels and easy access to the highway toward Bahía de Kino. Rates average MXN 900 to 1,800 (US$45 to 90) a night. It’s convenient for road trips west to the coast rather than for walking to sights.
Villa de Seris
Villa de Seris, in the southeast, is one of the city’s older neighbourhoods, known for its chapel and traditional bakeries selling coyotas. It’s mostly residential with a small, genuine local feel and cheaper guesthouses around MXN 700 to 1,200 (US$35 to 60) a night. It appeals to budget travelers and anyone after a less touristic slice of the city.
