Hermosillo’s calendar is built around one big cultural festival in late May, a month-long livestock fair in spring, and the winter baseball season that defines the city’s social life. Most events are cheap or free, and the biggest ones take place in the historic centre’s plazas. Pair this with our best time to visit guide to time your trip around them.

Hermosillo Events and Festivals: Fiestas del Pitic

Fiestas del Pitic, held around May 21 to 24 each year, marks the anniversary of Hermosillo’s founding and is the city’s flagship festival. The main stages are Plaza Alonso Vidal and Plaza Bicentenario, with free concerts that have included Maná, Carlos Rivera, Grupo Frontera, and Lila Downs in recent years. Around 1,500 artists perform across 20 venues, with theatre, dance, opera, and indigenous culture alongside the music. Cultural routes begin in the first half of May in neighbourhoods like Villa de Seris and Bahía de Kino.

Hermosillo Events and Festivals: ExpoGan Sonora

ExpoGan Sonora, the state’s livestock and agricultural fair, runs for roughly three weeks from mid-April to mid-May at the Expo Forum in the south of the city. It mixes a traditional cattle show with a palenque (concert venue), the Teatro del Pueblo with free live music, more than 20 mechanical rides, and daily food stalls. Families make a full evening of it, and tickets to the headline concerts sell separately from general fair admission.

Hermosillo Events and Festivals: Baseball Season

The Naranjeros de Hermosillo play in the Mexican Pacific League, which runs from mid-October through late January, with home games at Estadio Héctor Espino. The team has won the league multiple times and draws some of the most loyal crowds in Mexican baseball. Tickets are inexpensive, typically MXN 50 to 150 (US$2.50 to 7.50), and the winter season means games are played in pleasant evening weather. Playoff games in January are the highlight.

Hermosillo Events and Festivals: Religious and Civic Holidays

Semana Santa (Holy Week) in March or April brings processions and a busy weekend across the city and the coast. Independence Day on September 15 and 16 fills the plazas with the Grito, fireworks, and street food, with the main event at the Government Palace. Day of the Dead on November 1 and 2 brings altars and ofrendas to the centre and the cemeteries, and Christmas sees lights and markets in Plaza Zaragoza through late December.

Hermosillo Events and Festivals: Food and Craft Markets

Weekend markets and food events run year-round. Parque La Ruina hosts rotating food-truck and craft markets, and the Museo de Culturas Populares e Indígenas runs artisan markets featuring Seri and Yaqui work during festival weeks. For a sit-down taste of the region, look for carne asada and coyotas, the local sugar-filled pastry, at stalls and bakeries around the centre. The best of these are covered in our things to do guide.
