Cuneo sits at 534 metres (1,752 feet) in the Stura di Demonte valley, where the plain of Piedmont meets the Maritime Alps, and that position produces a temperate sub-continental climate with genuinely cold winters and warm, fairly dry summers. The city averages about 990 mm of rain a year across 81 days and roughly 110 cm of snow, most of it between December and February. This page is part of our complete Cuneo travel guide and breaks the year down month by month with real numbers, so you can plan around snow, fog and the summer heat instead of guessing.
Cuneo Weather in Winter: December to February
Winter is cold and often foggy. January is the coldest month, with an average low of -1.9 °C (29 °F) and an average high of just 8.4 °C (47 °F), and night frost is normal for weeks on end. The city is famous as one of the colder provincial capitals in Italy, and the 110 cm annual snow total means a white centre is common, not a rarity. December brings 76 mm of rain and February 60 mm, but the snow that matters for skiers falls in the nearby Maritime Alps resorts rather than piling up in town. See our best time to visit Cuneo guide for how winter shapes travel.
Cuneo Weather in Spring: March to May
Spring warms quickly but stays wet. March averages 8.3 °C with 70 mm of rain, and by May the daily mean reaches 16.3 °C with an average high of 21.7 °C (71 °F). April is the second-wettest month of the year at 115 mm across 9 rainy days, so pack a rain jacket if you plan day trips into the Langhe hills. The late-spring shoulder between May and early June is one of the best periods for cycling the Gesso and Stura river park trails without summer heat or winter fog.
Cuneo Weather in Summer: June to August
Summer is warm but never oppressive thanks to the altitude. July is the hottest month, averaging 23.1 °C with a high of 28.9 °C (84 °F) and a low of 17.4 °C. August is nearly identical at 22.4 °C and, at 48 mm, is the driest month of the year, so late July and August are reliably sunny. Evenings cool off once the sun drops behind the Alps, which is why the outdoor terraces and neighbourhoods fill up after 7 pm. Thunderstorms can roll in off the mountains on hot afternoons but rarely last.
Cuneo Weather in Autumn: September to November
Autumn is the rainiest season and the fog returns by November. September still averages a pleasant 18.4 °C with 78 mm of rain, but October climbs to 93 mm and November is the wettest month of the entire year at 152 mm across 9 days. October is also when the chestnut harvest peaks, which is why the Fiera Nazionale del Marrone, covered in our Cuneo events and festivals guide, lands in mid-October. Bring layers: mornings at 3 °C give way to 18 °C afternoons within a few hours in late autumn.

Cuneo Weather: Snow, Sunshine and What to Pack
Snowfall averages about 110 cm per year and tends to arrive in a few heavy events between December and February rather than light daily dustings. Sunshine peaks in July and August, when the city gets long clear days ideal for the mountain passes, and it is lowest in November, when fog can sit in the Stura valley for days. For packing, plan on a proper coat and sturdy shoes from November to March, a waterproof layer in April and October, and light layers plus a jumper for cool evenings from May to September. If you need hotel ideas for any season, our where to stay in Cuneo page lists specific options, and the Cuneo travel tips guide covers getting to town.
Cuneo Weather for Outdoor Activities
Most of what you will want to do ties directly to the season. Skiers head to Limone Piemonte (52 km of slopes, about 28 km away) and the Mondole Ski area (roughly 38 km away) from mid-December to late March, while hikers and cyclists use the Parco Fluviale Gesso e Stura from April to October.
