The best time to visit Jericoacoara depends on what you want from the trip. Kitesurfers and windsurfers should target July to December, when steady 20 to 30 knot trade winds blow almost every day. Travellers who want calm water and full lagoons should book February to May, when rain refills the freshwater lakes but brings heavy afternoon showers. Prices peak in December, January and July, and drop sharply in the rainy season. Here is a full month-by-month breakdown of weather, prices and crowds so you can pick the right window, part of our complete Jericoacoara travel guide.

Best Time to Visit Jericoacoara: Peak Wind Season (July to November)

July to November is the prime season for wind sports and for dry, sunny weather. Rainfall is minimal in this window, from about 25mm in July down to 5mm in September and October, and sunshine averages 9 to 10 hours a day. Wind speeds peak between September and November, which is exactly when the GKA Big Air Kite World Cup and other competitions run. The trade-off is price: pousadas charge their highest rates from July to October, and the village fills with riders. Book accommodation at least two months ahead for this window, and see our where to stay in Jericoacoara guide for area picks.

Best Time to Visit Jericoacoara: Rainy Season (February to May)

February to May is the green season. Rainfall builds from about 140mm in February to a peak of 240 to 250mm in March and April, mostly as short, heavy afternoon showers. The upside is the lagoons: Lagoa do Paraíso and Lagoa Azul fill to their deepest, clearest levels in March and April, and the dunes turn green. Prices fall 30 to 50 percent in this period and the village is quieter, so you can get beachfront rooms for a fraction of dry-season rates. Avoid this window if you want guaranteed sunshine for kitesurfing, but it is the best value stretch of the year. For monthly numbers, see our Jericoacoara weather by month guide.

Best Time to Visit Jericoacoara: Shoulder Months (June and December)

June and December sit between the two extremes and are often the smartest months to book. June has shed most of the rain, at about 60mm, but the peak wind and peak prices have not yet arrived. December keeps dry, sunny weather with only about 40mm of rain, warming lows of 24°C (75°F), and the wind is still reliable for kitesurfing. December does carry New Year surcharges in the last week, but the first three weeks offer good value before the festive peak. Both months suit swimmers, sunbathers and first-time visitors who want a bit of everything. For what to do once you arrive, check our things to do in Jericoacoara guide.

Best Time to Visit Jericoacoara: Month by Month Guide

January and February bring the first real rain and the lowest prices after New Year. March and April are the wettest months, around 240 to 250mm, and the best time to see the lagoons at full depth. May is transitional, with rain easing to about 150mm and wind returning. June and July are dry and increasingly windy, and July starts the school-holiday price rise in Brazil. August and September are the driest and windiest, ideal for kitesurfing but the most expensive for pousadas. October and November combine peak wind with long sunny days, and host the major competitions. December is dry and warm until the New Year rush. Best Time to Visit Jericoacoara: Events and Price Calendar

Prices move in step with the seasons. High season runs December, January, July and the October to November wind peak, when doubles and beachfront pousadas charge full rates. Low season runs February to May and again in June, when many pousadas cut rates by a third or more. The GKA Big Air Kite World Cup lands in November, the Wind Festival and Forró festivals fill July and August, and New Year on the beach is the single busiest date of the year. If a specific festival is your goal, match dates in our Jericoacoara events and festivals article, and to understand the layout read our Jericoacoara neighborhoods guide.
