Ancona sits on a climate boundary between Mediterranean and continental zones on Italy’s Adriatic coast. The city gets about 740mm (29 inches) of rain annually spread across the year, with a pronounced autumn peak. Summers are hot and sunny, winters are cool and damp, and the shoulder seasons bring the most comfortable conditions for sightseeing. The Adriatic Sea moderates temperatures year-round, keeping winter lows above freezing and summer highs from reaching the extremes you get inland.
