São Jorge Events: Feira do Queijo (Cheese Fair)
The annual São Jorge cheese fair takes place in May or June, typically in Velas or Beira. Producers from across the island bring their cheeses for tasting and sale, alongside local honey, bread, and crafts. It is a small, informal event rather than a large-scale show, but the chance to taste cheeses from multiple producers in one place makes it worth timing a visit around. São Jorge Events: Festas do Divino Espírito Santo
The Holy Spirit festivals run from May to July in parishes across the island. The largest celebrations are in Velas and Calheta. The format: Sunday mass, procession, and communal sopas do Espírito Santo in the parish hall. Visitors are welcome to participate and eat. These are the most authentic Azorean events you can experience, and on São Jorge they remain genuinely community-driven rather than staged for tourism.
