Sanctuary of Truth (Prasat Satchatham)
Pattaya’s most extraordinary landmark: a 105-metre-tall temple constructed entirely from wood (teak, ironwood, and mahogany), carved with Hindu and Buddhist mythological figures. Construction began in 1981 under Thai businessman Lek Viriyaphant and has never stopped; carvers work on-site daily, replacing and adding sections as older wood weathers.
The temple sits on a rocky headland at Naklua with the sea on three sides. Entry is 500 THB (US$14), open daily 8:00 to 18:00 with guided tours in English every 30 minutes. The tour explains the philosophical themes behind the four wings (one each for Thai, Khmer, Chinese, and Indian influences).
Woodcarving workshops adjacent to the temple let you watch artisans at work. Located 4 kilometres north of central Pattaya on Naklua Soi 12; a songthaew from the Dolphin Roundabout costs 20 THB. Plan 1.5 to 2 hours. Bring a wide-angle lens; the interior scale is difficult to capture otherwise.
Wat Phra Yai (Big Buddha Hill)
An 18-metre golden Buddha seated on Pratumnak Hill between Pattaya and Jomtien, visible from much of Pattaya Bay. The temple complex at the base has fortune-teller stalls, bell-ringing for merit, and panoramic views across Pattaya Bay and Koh Larn island.
Open daily 7:00 to 18:00, free entry. The staircase from the parking area has 100-plus steps; there’s also a road for those unable to climb. Early morning (before 9:00) has the fewest visitors and the clearest views. Combine with the Khao Pattaya Viewpoint 500 metres away for a two-stop hill circuit.

Nong Nooch Tropical Botanical Garden
A 240-hectare botanical garden 18 kilometres south of Pattaya with 30 themed zones including a French garden, Stonehenge replica, cactus garden, orchid nursery (500-plus species), and a cycad collection. Daily cultural shows run at 10:30, 11:30, 13:30, and 15:30 featuring Thai dance, Muay Thai demonstrations, and elephant shows.
Entry is 500 THB for foreigners, open 8:00 to 18:00. The on-site restaurant serves Thai buffet lunch at 300 THB. A baht bus from Pattaya to Sattahip (30 THB) passes the entrance; tell the driver “Suan Nong Nooch.” Plan 3 to 4 hours minimum; the site is walkable but bicycles (100 THB) and golf carts (600 THB for 2 hours) are available. The French Garden and orchid house are the photo highlights.

Khao Pattaya Viewpoint (Pattaya Hill)
The best panoramic view of Pattaya Bay, from the Royal Cliff headland above the Pattaya sign. The viewpoint frames Pattaya Beach’s full crescent, the city skyline, and Koh Larn island in a single shot. Free entry, open 24 hours, with parking for 30 cars.
Best visited at sunset (17:30 to 18:30) when the city lights start coming on and the bay catches the gold light. The viewpoint area has a small drink stand (fresh coconut at 50 THB) and a row of souvenir stalls. Located on Pratumnak Hill, a 10-minute motorbike ride from central Pattaya. The nearby Chocolate Hill viewpoint 300 metres south has a smaller platform with fewer people but a similar view.
