Denpasar is the capital of Bali and the administrative heart of Indonesia’s most-visited island, a city of 725,000 people sitting 13 km north of Ngurah Rai International Airport. Its climate is tropical monsoon: warm all year with a wet season from November to March and a dry season from April to October. This guide breaks down Denpasar’s weather by month, the best time to visit, what to do, where to stay, and how to get around with concrete temperatures, prices, and places.
Welcome to Denpasar: Climate at a Glance
Sitting at 8.65 degrees south, just below the equator, Denpasar has one of the steadiest temperature profiles of any world city. Daytime highs stay between 26°C and 28°C (79°F to 82°F) every month, and nights rarely drop below 23°C (73°F). The real seasonality is rainfall: August averages just 42 mm across 11 rainy days, while January sees 296 mm across 20. Total annual rainfall is about 1,642 mm, almost all of it falling as short afternoon downpours rather than steady all-day rain.

Where to Stay in Denpasar
Denpasar’s own hotels undercut the beach resorts by half or more, but most visitors split their stay between the historic center and the nearby sand. Sanur, the city’s calm seaside suburb 8 km east, is the best base for families thanks to its protected swimming beach and low-rise esplanade of restaurants. For nightlife and dining, Seminyak and Kuta sit 25 to 40 minutes to the west. Read the full where to stay guide for area-by-area hotel options.
