This Qingdao guide collects everything you need: monthly weather, the best time to go, top sights, events, neighborhoods, hotels, and practical travel tips.

Where Qingdao Sits and What Shapes Its Weather

Qingdao faces the Yellow Sea from the southeast coast of the Shandong peninsula, about 550 kilometres southeast of Beijing, and it wraps around Jiaozhou Bay. The sea moderates the temperature, so summers stay cooler and winters warmer than inland Shandong cities like Jinan, which can hit 35°C (95°F) in summer and drop below -10°C (14°F) in winter. The same sea drives the spring fog and concentrates the rain into the summer monsoon months. The city’s hills, including Signal Hill and Mount Lao, catch the sea breeze and keep the old town noticeably fresher than the inland districts.
