Shenzhen, China’s technology capital on the Pearl River Delta, transformed from a 30,000-person fishing village in 1980 to a 17-million megacity. The climate is humid subtropical with temperatures from 13°C (55°F) in January to 32°C (90°F) in July, annual rainfall of 1,966mm concentrated April through September, and typhoon risk July through September.
Welcome to Shenzhen
Shenzhen does not have ancient temples or colonial quarters. What it has is China’s youngest, most ambitious cityscape: a 599-meter skyscraper with an observation deck on the 116th floor, theme parks where you can walk through a 1:3 Eiffel Tower at Window of the World, the world’s largest electronics market at Huaqiangbei, and a contemporary art scene thriving in repurposed 1980s factories at OCT Loft. The city is a hardware maker’s paradise, a cross-border shopper’s playground, and a glimpse of urban China’s future. Check the Shenzhen weather by month guide for climate data before booking.
