Summer is peak season and deservedly so. Expect the highest hotel rates and the largest crowds; book accommodation 3 to 4 months ahead for July visits. Despite being the warmest months, July and August are also the wettest, so pack a rain jacket.

Autumn in Copenhagen (September to November)

September is a sweet spot: 17°C (63°F) highs, fewer tourists after European school holidays end, and the CPH Cooking Class food festival. October brings brilliant autumn foliage in Frederiksberg Gardens and Dyrehaven, but rain increases sharply. November is the darkest, wettest month and the least popular time to visit; though Christmas markets begin mid-month, brightening the gloom.

Winter in Copenhagen (December to February)

Winter is dark (7 hours of daylight in December) and cold (highs around 2 to 4°C), but December’s first three weeks are magical with Tivoli’s Christmas market, gløgg (mulled wine) at outdoor stalls, and the Danish concept of hygge; candlelit cafes with blankets on echair. January and February are the quietest, cheapest months; you’ll have museums nearly to yourself and hotel rates at 40 to 50% below July peaks.
