Todos Santos is a Pacific coast town in Baja California Sur, Mexico, 75 km north of Cabo San Lucas and an hour from Los Cabos International Airport. It was named a Pueblo Magico in 2006, and it combines a 1740s mission church, an active surf scene at Los Cerritos, and one of Mexico’s densest collections of art galleries. The climate is subtropical desert: about 195 mm of rain a year, more than 300 sunny days, and winter highs around 25°C (77°F).

Welcome to Todos Santos

The town spreads across a compact historic center and two farming valleys, with beaches strung north and south along Highway 19. Gray whales pass the coast from mid-December to mid-April, and Olive Ridley sea turtles nest on the local beaches from June to December. Most visitors split their time between the galleries and restaurants around the plaza and the surf break at Los Cerritos, ten minutes south.

Weather at a Glance

The dry season runs December through May, with clear skies and daytime highs of 25°C to 27°C (77°F to 80°F). July through September turns hot and humid, peaking at 32°C (90°F) in August and September, when nearly all of the town’s 195 mm of annual rain falls. Pacific sea temperatures run 20°C to 21°C (68°F to 70°F) in winter and 26°C to 28°C (79°F to 82°F) in late summer. The full numbers are in the Todos Santos weather by month guide.

Seasonal Snapshot

  • Winter (December to February): cool nights at 12°C to 15°C (54°F to 59°F), whale season, the January music festival, and the busiest, priciest stretch.
  • Spring (March to May): dry and mild, empty beaches, lower hotel rates, and the last whales in March and April.
  • Summer (June to September): hot and humid, warmest sea, turtle nesting, but August and September bring rain and hurricane risk.
  • Autumn (October to November): cooling off, turtle releases peak, and the October 12 patron-saint fiesta fills the plaza.

Location and Getting Around

Todos Santos sits on Highway 19, the older Pacific route that runs from Cabo San Lucas to La Paz, so it avoids the toll-road corridor traffic of Highway 1. The center is walkable, but the beaches, the Sierra de la Laguna trailheads, and El Pescadero all require a car or taxi. Renting a car at Los Cabos airport gives you the most flexibility, and the drive takes 75 to 90 minutes.
