Kaş is small enough to walk, but it splits into three distinct areas with different characters and price levels: the town centre, the Çukurbağ Peninsula, and the beach coves. This guide to Kaş neighborhoods explains what each area is for and who it suits. For hotel picks in each, see the where to stay in Kaş guide, and for the wider Kaş travel guide start there.

Kaş Neighborhoods: An Overview

Town Centre and Old Town

The town centre runs from the harbour and Uzun Çarşı bazaar uphill to the Antiphellos theatre, and this is where almost all restaurants, bars, dive shops and the bus station sit. It is the best area for first-time visitors who want to walk to everything and not rent a car. Rooms here tend to be small pensions and boutique hotels, with mid-range doubles averaging 60 to 100 EUR in summer. It gets lively in the evening and stays walkable all year, and its peak is the August heat described in the Kaş weather by month page.

Çukurbağ Peninsula

The Çukurbağ Peninsula stretches west of town for about 4km, lined with villa hotels and small resorts that face the sea on both sides. It is the quietest and most upscale of the Kaş neighborhoods, suited to couples who want a pool and a sunset view rather than nightlife. Expect to pay 120 to 250 EUR a night at the better properties in summer, and plan on a 5 to 10 minute drive or dolmuş ride into town for dinner.

Büyük Çakıl and the Beach Coves

South of the centre, the coves of Büyük Çakıl (Big Pebble) and Küçük Çakıl (Little Pebble) hold the beach clubs and a run of small hotels with direct access to the water. This area suits families and swimmers who want to roll out of bed and onto a sunbed. It is a 15 to 20 minute walk from the bazaar along the coast road, and prices sit between the town and the peninsula, with beachfront rooms from about 80 EUR in July.

Kaş Neighborhoods: Choosing Your Base

Pick the town centre if it is your first visit and you want restaurants and the boat harbour on your doorstep. Pick Çukurbağ if you are a couple after quiet, sea-view luxury and do not mind short trips into town. Pick the beach coves if you are travelling with children or your main goal is swimming. Whichever you choose, the things to do in Kaş are spread across all three, and a dolmuş along the coast road connects them in minutes.
