Valladolid’s events calendar is dominated by its internationally recognised Semana Santa (Holy Week), one of Spain’s most artistically significant Easter observances, and the energetic Feria de la Virgen de San Lorenzo in September. Between these anchors, the city hosts one of Spain’s oldest film festivals, a massive motorcycle rally, and a national tapas competition. Here is what is happening and when.
Valladolid Events in Spring
Semana Santa (Holy Week)
Valladolid’s Semana Santa is declared of International Tourist Interest and is considered one of Spain’s three great Easter observances alongside Seville and Málaga. The difference is tone: Valladolid’s processions are solemn, silent, and artistically focused on the pasos, wooden sculptural groups carved by masters like Gregorio Fernández and Juan de Juni in the 16th and 17th centuries. Twenty cofradías (brotherhoods) parade through the streets from Palm Sunday to Easter Sunday, with the most famous processions being the Procesión General de la Sagrada Pasión del Redentor on Good Friday afternoon, when all brotherhoods converge. The Thursday night silence procession through the old town is the most moving. Dates: late March or April depending on the lunar calendar. Book accommodation 3 months ahead, rates double or triple.
Feria del Libro (Book Fair)
For 10 days from late April into early May, Plaza Mayor fills with bookstalls from Spanish publishers and booksellers. Author signings, readings, and children’s events run throughout. Free entry. Dates: approximately April 25 to May 5.

Feria y Fiestas de la Virgen de San Lorenzo
Valladolid’s biggest annual party runs for 10 days around the first week of September, honouring the city’s patron saint. The Feria ground (Recinto Ferial) near the Pisuerga River fills with casetas (festival tents), amusement rides, and stages hosting free concerts ranging from pop and rock to traditional Castilian folk. The opening pregón (inaugural speech) from the City Hall balcony kicks off the celebrations on the Friday before the first weekend. The fireworks display over the river on the final Saturday night draws tens of thousands. Most events are free. The Tuesday of Feria week is a local holiday. Dates: always the first week of September (e.g., Friday August 29 to Sunday September 7 in 2025).
Concurso Nacional de Pinchos y Tapas (National Tapas Competition)
Every November, Valladolid hosts Spain’s most prestigious tapas competition. Around 50 bars across the city create a special pincho for the competition, which visitors sample and vote on. The participating bars display a competition sticker in the window. A tapa plus a small beer or wine costs EUR 2.50 to 3.50 each. Pick up a tapas route map from the tourist office and plan to hit 5 to 8 bars in an evening. Dates: first or second week of November (usually Wednesday to Sunday).

Seminci (Valladolid International Film Festival)
Founded in 1956, Seminci is Spain’s fourth-oldest film festival and focuses on independent and auteur cinema. The festival screens around 200 films over 8 days across venues including Teatro Calderón, Teatro Zorrilla, and the Broadway multiplex. The Espiga de Oro (Golden Spike) is the top prize. Individual tickets cost EUR 5 to 8. The festival attracts international directors and industry professionals. Dates: the last week of October (Saturday to Saturday).
Valladolid Events in Winter
Pingüinos
Europe’s largest winter motorcycle rally, drawing 40,000 bikers from across the continent for a long weekend. Events include a torchlight parade through the city centre, stunt shows, live rock music, and a massive campsite at the fairground. Even if you do not ride, the sight and sound of thousands of motorcycles parading through Valladolid’s streets is unforgettable. The city centre bars fill with an unusually leather-clad crowd. Dates: second weekend of January (Thursday to Sunday).
Christmas in Valladolid
From late November to January 6, Plaza Mayor hosts the Christmas market with 30 stalls selling decorations, gifts, and churros con chocolate. A large nativity scene (belén) is displayed inside City Hall. The Cabalgata de Reyes (Three Kings parade) on the evening of January 5 brings floats, music, and candy-throwing through the city centre, ending at Plaza Mayor. Valladolid’s Christmas lights are extensive across the shopping streets of Calle Santiago and Calle Constitución.
