Location and Geography

Gran Canaria sits at 28°N latitude, 150km west of the Moroccan coast and 1,250km southwest of mainland Spain. The island is roughly circular, 50km in diameter, with a surface area of 1,560 km². The topography is dominated by a central volcanic massif radiating deep ravines (barrancos) outward in all directions. Pico de las Nieves (1,949m) is the highest point.
