Oman has a desert climate with coastal humidity, influenced by the Indian Ocean monsoon in the south. Muscat averages 21°C in January and 34°C in July, with summer humidity reaching 90 per cent. Salalah in the south experiences the khareef monsoon from June to September, transforming the landscape green with temperatures dropping to a pleasant 25°C. The Hajar Mountains (Jebel Akhdar, Jebel Shams) offer cooler temperatures: 10-20°C in winter and 25-30°C in summer at elevations above 2,000m. The best time for most of Oman is November to March when daytime highs sit between 24°C and 30°C. Wadi hiking and desert camping are best from October to April when temperatures are comfortable.
