New Caledonia has a tropical climate moderated by Pacific trade winds, with warm temperatures year-round. Noumea averages 20-29°C, with the warm season from November to April and the cool season from May to October. The wettest months are January to March when tropical depressions and occasional cyclones can affect the island. The best time to visit is September to November and April to May, with pleasant temperatures and lower humidity. The lagoon (a UNESCO World Heritage site) offers excellent snorkelling and diving year-round with water temperatures of 22-28°C.
