Where to Stay in Holbox

Mexico Quintana Roo Holbox

Holbox has roughly 60 accommodation options ranging from US$20/night backpacker dorms to US$400+/night beachfront suites. The island has no international chain hotels (no Marriott, Hilton, or Hyatt) and no all-inclusive resorts. What you get instead are boutique hotels, small guesthouses, and a handful of upscale eco-lodges, nearly all Mexican-owned. The island’s electricity comes from a mainland cable and diesel generators, and water pressure can be low at properties on the east end of the island. Always confirm whether your hotel has a backup generator (planta de luz) if visiting during the June-November storm season. WiFi is unreliable island-wide, so do not count on streaming or video calls from your room. For a full overview, see our Holbox travel guide.
