Assisi Weather by Month: Temperatures, Rainfall & Climate Guide

Italy Umbria Assisi

Assisi sits on the slopes of Mount Subasio in Umbria at an elevation of 400 metres (1,312 feet), giving it a climate that is warmer in summer and colder in winter than the surrounding valleys. The hilltop position means you will feel the breeze even on hot days, and fog can roll in during autumn mornings. This inland Mediterranean climate has four distinct seasons, with rain concentrated in October and November. For a complete overview, see our Assisi travel guide.

Assisi Weather by Month: Winter (December to February)

December through February are the coldest months in Assisi, with daytime highs of 8-10°C (46-50°F) and overnight lows dropping to 1-2°C (34-36°F). Snow is rare in the town itself but Mount Subasio often gets a dusting. You will need a heavy coat, scarf, and gloves. Rain falls on about 7-8 days per month. Hotel rates are at their cheapest, often 40-50 percent below summer prices except during the Christmas period when pilgrims fill the basilicas. The Feast of the Immaculate Conception on December 8 and Christmas Eve Mass at the Basilica of St. Francis draw crowds. For more information, see our best time to visit Assisi.
