Civitavecchia is small, so its neighborhoods are less about distinct districts and more about which part of town delivers what you need for one night before a ferry or cruise.
Neighborhoods in Civitavecchia: Where to Base Yourself
Centro Storico (Old Town)
The old town clusters around Piazza Vittorio Emanuele and the cathedral, with the medieval street grid, cafes, trattorias, and small shops. It suits first-time visitors who want the sights on their doorstep. Hotels run from one-star pensione to three-star stays, roughly EUR 80 to 150 a night in high season.
Porto and the Seafront (Lungomare)
The strip along Viale Garibaldi and the harbor, from the station toward the Forte Michelangelo and Pirgo beach, is where the seafront hotels sit. It is the most convenient base for cruisers, a 10-minute walk or short shuttle from the terminals. Seafront rooms run EUR 100 to 200 a night in summer. Read the where to stay guide for specific hotels.
Stazione Area
Around the train station, about 300 meters inland from the port, lie the budget hotels and B&Bs. It is the logical overnight spot for late arrivals from Rome Termini or Fiumicino. Rooms run EUR 60 to 110 a night.
San Liborio and the Residential Hinterland
West and north of the center, around San Liborio, the town spreads into modern residential blocks and the road toward the Aurelia highway and the Terme Taurine baths. There is little tourist interest, but this is where you find free parking and the lowest nightly rates, suited to self-drivers.
