Israel has a Mediterranean climate in the north and centre, transitioning to desert in the south and the Dead Sea region. Tel Aviv averages 13°C in January and 26°C in July, with virtually no rain from June to September. Jerusalem is cooler due to its 750m elevation: 9°C in January and 24°C in July, with occasional snow every few winters. Eilat on the Red Sea is a winter sun destination with January temperatures of 16-21°C and summer highs above 40°C. The Dead Sea area is the lowest point on Earth at -430m, producing extreme summer heat (38-42°C) but mild winters (20°C). The best months for sightseeing are March to May and October to November when temperatures sit at 20-28°C and rain is minimal.
