Le Voyage à Nantes (Early July to Late August)
The Voyage à Nantes is the city’s flagship summer event, transforming the entire urban area into a contemporary art trail. A painted green line runs 10 km through the streets, connecting 30 to 40 temporary art installations, architectural interventions, pop-up bars, and street performances. In 2025 the trail included a floating sauna on the Erdre, a giant inflatable sculpture on the Loire, and a rooftop cocktail bar at the Tour Bretagne (open only during the festival). Les Rendez-Vous de l’Erdre (Late August to Early September)
This free jazz and river festival runs for 10 days along the banks of the Erdre River, anchored by the Quai Ceineray and Quai Henri Barbusse. About 150 concerts take place, roughly half on outdoor stages and half in venues across Nantes and the riverside towns north of the city. The lineup skews toward French and European jazz with some world music acts. The opening weekend features a boat parade of 200 vintage and contemporary vessels decorated with lights. While technically in Clisson (30 km southeast, 25 minutes by TER train from Nantes station), Hellfest is one of Europe’s largest metal festivals and fills Nantes hotels and restaurants. The 2025 edition drew 240,000 attendees over four days across six stages. Tickets (€295 for the four-day pass) sell out in under an hour when released in October of the previous year. A five-day classical music festival held at the Cité des Congrès (5 Rue de Valmy), packing roughly 300 concerts into a single venue. Nantes Christmas Market (Late November to December 24)
The Marché de Noël sets up in Place Royale and spreads into Place du Commerce, with roughly 120 wooden chalets selling crafts, mulled wine, and regional food specialties. The market opens the last weekend of November and runs daily 11:00 to 20:00 (until 21:00 Fridays and Saturdays).
