Mont-Saint-Michel’s calendar is shaped less by music festivals and more by the tides, the abbey’s religious rhythm, and the summer light show. Here are the specific events worth planning a trip around Mont-Saint-Michel, with dates for 2026 where they are confirmed.
Mont-Saint-Michel Events: Les Nocturnes de l’Abbaye
Les Nocturnes de l’Abbaye is the signature summer event, an after-dark walk through the abbey with an immersive sound and light installation and headphones. In 2026 it runs from 3 July to 30 August, with sessions Monday to Saturday from 7:30pm to midnight. The 2026 edition, called Colorama, is produced by the Spectaculaires collective and lights the cloister, refectory, and crypts in shifting colour. Mont-Saint-Michel Events: Spring Tides (Grandes Marées)
The spring tides are the mount’s recurring natural event, when the tidal coefficient exceeds 90 and the range between low and high water approaches 14 metres, the largest in continental Europe. The biggest tides cluster around the March and September equinoxes, with the tourism office publishing an annual tide calendar based on Saint-Malo timings. On the peak days, guided bay crossings fill up and the ramparts and dam become viewing platforms as the sea races back in, faster than a person can walk. Mont-Saint-Michel Events: Religious Feasts and Pilgrimages
The abbey keeps a working religious calendar. The feast of Saint Michael on 29 September is the year’s main celebration, with mass in the abbey church, and it often coincides with the autumn spring tides. A traditional pilgrim crossing of the bay takes place on selected summer weekends, retracing the route medieval pilgrims walked from Genêts on the mainland across the sand to the mount, always under certified guides. Midnight mass on Christmas Eve and the Easter services are the other highlights, but note the abbey is closed to visitors on 25 December itself. Mont-Saint-Michel Events: Bayman Triathlon and Sporting Events
The Bayman, an international triathlon that starts with a swim in the bay and runs through the surrounding salt marshes, is the area’s biggest sporting event and is typically scheduled in summer. The flat, exposed terrain around the bay also hosts cycling and trail-running events through spring and summer, all listed on the tourism office’s agenda.
