Amiens has a temperate oceanic climate, cool and damp but rarely extreme, shaped by the Somme valley in Hauts-de-France about 60 km (37 miles) inland from the English Channel. January averages 4°C (39°F) and July 18°C (64°F), with roughly 640 mm (25 in) of rain spread over about 165 rain days a year and 1,650 hours of annual sunshine. There is no dry season: rain falls in every month, but summer highs of 22°C (72°F) with 7 hours of daily sun make June to August the most comfortable window. For the month-by-month detail, see this Amiens weather by month guide alongside our best time to visit breakdown. See our things to do guide for more.

Amiens Weather by Month: What to Expect Each Season
Winter (December to February)
December is the wettest month with 68 mm of rain and the cloudiest at 2 hours of sun per day, while January is the coldest with highs of 6°C (43°F) and lows of 1°C (34°F). Frost appears on about 40 mornings a year but snow is light and short-lived, averaging only a few days per winter. Pack a waterproof coat and layers; the Christmas market and cathedral light show make December worth the chill. Our best neighborhoods breakdown has the specifics.
Spring (March to May)
Temperatures climb from 11°C (52°F) in March to 17°C (63°F) in May, and sunshine doubles from 4 to 7 hours a day. Rainfall stays steady at 50-59 mm per month, so bring an umbrella, but the hortillonnages gardens and riverside paths open up as the Somme warms. May is often the most pleasant balance of mild weather before summer crowds. Compare with the where to stay guide before you book.
Summer (June to August)
July and August are the warmest months with highs of 22°C (72°F), lows of 13°C (55°F) and 7 hours of daily sun, though rain still arrives on about 13 days each month. Heat waves are rare and brief, so air conditioning is uncommon in older hotels. This is the best season for boat trips on the Somme and open-air evening events like the Chroma cathedral show. Details are in the travel tips guide.
Autumn (September to November)
September stays mild at 19°C (66°F) with only 55 mm of rain, but by November highs drop to 10°C (50°F) and rain rises to 68 mm, the year’s greyest stretch. October brings 66 mm of rain and falling leaves along the Somme. Late September through early October is a good value window for sightseeing between the summer and Christmas peaks.
